I am effervescent with joy!! Tonight is the night ~ Trey, Ella and I have been braving the elements to get our space ready. We have gotten soaked, filthy beyond belief and have plenty of sore muscles but the shop is set up and we are ready for Frist Friday in the West Bottoms.
The BIG night will be tomorrow night, and Trey and I will be out enjoying the whole scene in the West Bottoms and checking in on our space.
I am teeming with music right now but Tori Amos' "Raspberry Swirl" sums it up ~ so click below to join in a little "Studio Rewind" dance party :)
For those of you who can't make it, here is the space in a photographic nutshell ~~
Come and see us ~ we will be in the bottoms Friday night and part of Saturday mostly at "Rag and Bone". If you don't catch us, trust me, you will not be disappointed with the area and all the cool things going on down there! Also, you may want to check out the Zombie Ball at "Rag and Bone" Saturday night ~ how can you beat Zombie belly dancing??
Thanks to everyone who has supported us as we have made this journey, and from me to Trey ~ "Thank you, thank you, thank you for making all my dreams come true!!!"
Happy Halloween and cheers to November's First Friday Weekend ~ hope it holds joy for all of you.
3 days and counting until Studio Rewind has our grand opening at the First Friday weekend down in the Historic West Bottoms.
We will be in an indoor space at "Rag and Bone" ~ booth number 11. The space is open starting Thursday night. We will be working for one 5-hour shift that weekend and will let everyone know when we will be there, in case you are planning to stop by and you want to see Trey, Ella and I.
I hope to post pictures of some of our items as we clean and prepare everything for the sale. We do know that Trey's antique, wooden examination table will be featured in the "Rag and Bone"'s window display :)

udio Rewind is planning its big launch for the "First Friday" weekend in November (November 1st, 2nd and 3rd). We plan to open our shop in the outdoor venue of Hickory Dickory in the West Bottoms of Kansas City (1107 Hickory Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64101). If this changes, we will let everyone know.
We have been busy putting together an eclectic, unique and fun collection of vintage, antique, up-cycled and re-purposed goods; and we have been having a ball doing it!
The seeds for Studio Rewind were planted at the end of our last snowy, Kansas City winter. Trey and I were just getting to know each other and after poorly planning a Saturday dinner at Blue Koi, we ended up with an extra hour of time on our hands as we waited for a table. We decided to take a walk, out into an icy night and as the path we were on curved around a small, frozen pond I asked him what his dream was. The thing he would want to do if he wasn't busy with other things. He surprised and delighted me when he told me he wanted to travel around the United States, going to auctions, flea markets and other places that sell old stuff, and purchase items for a little vintage/antique shop. "Whoa!", I thought to myself, "I might have to get this guy to stick around :)"
Some of my earliest memories of my grandmother, were of she and I tooling around on a Saturday morning from garage sale to garage sale scouring strangers' yards for buried treasure. She gave me a love of antiques that I have never shook. My graduate school apartment looked like a Pinterest experiment before Pinterest was even invented. I love finding something with a mysterious history, something unique, (oh and something super cheap or even better free!) and then working with my creative muse to bring it forward into a new life.
I also love to tell a story and to listen to stories, Studio Rewind, allows me to share the stories that move me with others. My contributions to the shop are pieces with a bit of whimsy (or possibly strangeness depending on your point of view). I love old typewriters, telephones, scales, mirrors, fans, Victorian photos ~ I like my pieces with some scratches, cracks, rust (perhaps things that are a bit like me, if I am truthful). I will also be offering some original art ~ collages built from various things found out in the day to day world and on Trey and I's expeditions; as well as re-purposed (or re-imagined) vintage furniture.
Trey has the eye of a talented and experienced graphic designer. He brings that sensibility into the pieces he finds for the shop. He also has a quirky streak so I like to think of his style as "steampunk modern" with a little Asian influence around the edges. He has an eye for the high-end and on a day when I tromp away with some dusty, rusty scales from the 1930's and a post-mortem, Victorian photograph; he will walk away with a first-class airplane seat or strangely breathtaking, antique examination table complete with metal gears and disturbing scratches into the finish.
I will be updating our blog to share before and after pictures of our up-cycling, to share our favorite or most bizarre finds and to pass along the stories we are collecting as we scour the Mid-West for items for our shop.
Welcome to the beginning of Studio Rewind ~ we hope you stop by and visit sometime over the coming First Friday weekend (oh, and I have a free gift for anyone who brings us coffee ~ p.s. Trey will need his de-caffeinated ;)
